Dr. Dawn X. Henderson is a representation of the DNA of the women, Black and Indigenized-bodied ancestors, and freedom imagineers before her. She began to facilitate transformative learning experiences in an early career as a middle school science teacher. For more than two decades, she created transformative learning experiences for youth and adult learners around scientific and research-oriented concepts. Through this work, she found the greatest transformation was the one that began to occur within herself and her healing journey. She witnessed the changes in herself and in the learners. Some of those learners reoriented their relationship with science and research so much so that many of them began saying–I am a scientist and I am a researcher. She has more than a decade of experience doing community-engaged research, working within neighborhoods and schools, and in partnership with nonprofits to advance their advocacy efforts. As a soul writer and world creator, she has produced and published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and commentaries that narrate the cultural ethos of U.S. based Black-bodied and African disporic young people from a place of resistance, healing, and love.
